Even though I haven't been writing about it I have done a few projects over the last few weeks and now seems like a good time to catch up. So here we go.........
Project One: Tension Rod Storage
Inspired by this on Pinterest it was time to clear out the area under my kitchen sink.
The cabinet goes far into the corner and really is useless space for me since it can be difficult to get to items stored there. I found several tension rods at our local ReStore for 50 cents each (compared to $3 for the same size at WalMart - I had no idea these simple things were so expensive!). Because the cabinet is so deep off to one side I wasn't able to set my tension rod like the inspiration photo so I turned it front to back. I was able to fit 8 various size spray bottles along my tension rod. I was worried about the whole thing crashing down from the weight of the bottles so I waited to put everything back in the cabinets. Everything was looking good, then CRASH!! I'm thinking "epic fail" at this point but I give it one more try - making sure to tightening the tension rod almost to the point of bending. And I'm happy to say that now after nearly 10 weeks of installation and use the rod has yet to fall down again! Woot! Woot!

Project Two: Updated Front PorchI have a postage size front porch. Just enough to get in the front door but not quite enough to put anything useful on it. Again gathering inspiration from Pinterest (as seen here) I had already changed out my door wreath.
I've been so chicken about painting my door. I have red paint waiting but worry it will be too much. I've considered a yellow but that makes me even more chicken. Black would be safe since I have black shutters however I'm afraid it would fade from the afternoon sun and look bad in a few months. So for now the door stays white....but I have no problem painting the door basket!! So out comes my bff....oil rubbed bronze spray paint!
I love this from Pinterest and think the height would work for my porch. Other than plants (and obviously pumpkins in the fall) I can't decide what would work on this as a year round design. So I'm putting this inspiration away till the spring.
But that doesn't mean that my porch needs to naked till then. I have two milk cans from a dairy farm that have sat in my shed for over six years. I decided one should at least come out to play. The old white paint finished was looking rather rough from previous years of display as well as sitting in the shed. So I introduced MC to my bff - ORB!!! A little bit of sanding with a wire brush to get the rust and chipping paint off and a couple of coats of spray paint gives the milk can new life. Can't wait to add some flowers and pumpkins for fall. Until then I pulled out a wood fall sign. Halloween is just around the corner so I'd better get myself in gear to purchase some pumpkins!
Project Three: Candle HolderYet again another Pinspiration!
Using a globe I picked up at the Goodwill for $1, a tuna can, and some ORB spray paint I put together this candle holder. Not sure where it will live yet but wouldn't it look great with some cranberries around the candle for Christmas?
Well, that at least catches up a few of the projects I've completed the last few months. I still have to finish the bookcase for the desk and frame out the flag in the boys' bedrooms. Not looking good to get the bookcase finished any time soon with the weather starting to turn rainy and cold - may be spring before that's complete. Anyone else got half started projects that will have to wait to be finished until the spring? Or been so busy with kids/school/activities that projects never seem to get done?
PSSST!! Young House Love is doing their second Pinterest Challenge so I'll be back in a few days to share my newest project(s)!!!
