Bathroom Update

With two teenage boys in the house finishes can take a real beating.  Floors.  Walls.  Doors.  Nothing seems to escape their touch.  The upstairs bathroom is the primary bathroom for the boys and it was starting to look like two monkeys boys had been hanging out in there.

The walls were still the builder beige color and showing every little mark.  Nothing that a good coat of paint wouldn't take care of.  But what color?  I'd put a couple of colors up but didn't really like them.

"Oops" Paint Color

While at Home Depot I found a $5 gallon of "Oops" paint.  I didn't get it because I was having paint paralysis.  The associate told me it would be gone by the afternoon however when I went back a couple of days later it was still there.  Was it fate?  Maybe.

The price was right and any color at this point would make the bathroom look better so this can found its way to our house.

Note: I'm not certain if it's all HDs but our store's policy is that if a tinted can of paint is not purchased they add more colorant to it to change the color so the consumer can't come back later to purchase the color they wanted at a discount.  There's not a name for this gray or even a formula since the employee just added and mixed till they got a different color.

Once on the walls all I can say is....L.O.V.E it!!!!

The rest of the updates include replacing the towels with photo enlargements of pictures that my oldest son took in Hawaii of the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri.  I've had the 16x20 frames for years and created the mats out of poster board.  I love that I was able to use pictures my son took to personalize the bathroom.

Although I replaced the towel rack I reused the towels.  I found the new towel rack at Lowe's.

Other items that were reused were the shower curtain, rod, rings, and rug.

There are plans for restaining the vanity and adding a frame to the mirror during summer vacation.

Here's a breakdown of the mini makeover:

Oops Paint from Home Depot - $5
Photo enlargements from Sam's Club - $12
16x20 frames - already owned
Photo Mats - $0.38
Towel Hook from Lowe's - $15
Towels - already owned
Clock from Big Lots - $8 (requested by my oldest)

Total:  $40.38

Not too bad for about $40, huh?  Anyone else tackling a bathroom makeover? It's it a full remodel or just an easy update?

  1. OMG! It looks fab! I had to do a double take because I was positive you snuck in my bathroom and took pictures! I have the EXACT same layout, counter top and cabinets but I'm in Arizona!
